৯৮২ খ্রিষ্টাব্দে মুন্সিগঞ্জ জেলা থেকে ১০ কিলোমিটার দূরে বিক্রমপুর পরগনার বজ্রযোগিনী গ্রামে পাল সাম্রাজ্যের বিখ্যাত বৌদ্ধ ধর্মপ্রচারক পন্ডিত অতীশ দীপঙ্কর জন্মগ্রহণ করেন। বৌদ্ধ ধর্ম প্রবর্তক গৌতম বৌদ্ধের পরেই গুরু অতীশ দীপঙ্করের স্থান। স্থানীয়দের কাছে অতীশ দীপঙ্করের জন্মস্থান বা বাস্তভিটা “পণ্ডিতের ভিটা” হিসেবে পরিচিত। অতীশ দীপঙ্করের বাস্তুভিটা থেকে বৌদ্ধ বিহারের সন্ধান পাওয়া যায়। বর্তমানে অতীশ দীপঙ্করের স্মৃতি চৈত্য স্থাপনের মাধ্যমে অতীশ দীপঙ্করের দেহভস্ম রাখা হয়েছে। প্রতি বছর বিভিন্ন দেশ থেকে অসংখ্য বৌদ্ধ ধর্মাবলম্বী অতীশ দীপঙ্করের জন্মস্থান (Birthplace of Atish Dipanker) পরিদর্শন করতে আসেন।
In 982 AD, the renowned Buddhist preacher and scholar of the Pala Empire, Atish Dipankar, was born in Vajrayogini village of the Bikrampur region, 10 kilometers away from Munshiganj district. After Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, Guru Atish Dipankar holds the next most revered position. To locals, the birthplace or ancestral homestead of Atish Dipankar is known as “Panditer Bhita” (Scholar’s Homestead). Archaeological findings of a Buddhist monastery have been discovered at his ancestral site. Currently, his bodily remains are preserved here through the installation of a commemorative chaitya. Every year, countless Buddhists from various countries visit the Birthplace of Atish Dipankar.
