Located in Jagannathpur, Chuadanga District, Atkobor (also known as Atkabar) is a historical site commemorating the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War. The distance from Chuadanga to the Atkobor memorial site is about 30 km. On August 3, 1971, a group of freedom fighters under the leadership of Commander Hafizur Rahman Jowardar took position at the Joypur shelter camp in Damurhuda, Chuadanga. In the morning, Kubad Khan, an agent of the Pakistan Muslim League, sent word to the freedom fighters’ camp according to his plan that Razakars had cut the ripe paddy in the fields of Natuda, Jagannathpur, and surrounding areas. Hearing this news, on August 5, several freedom fighters led by Commander Hasan rushed to Bagoan village, about two kilometers away. There, Pakistani soldiers from the Natuda camp, who had been lying in wait, surrounded the freedom fighters from all sides. In the ensuing frontal battle between the freedom fighters and the Pakistani soldiers, eight brave freedom fighters achieved martyrdom. Afterward, following the orders of the Pakistani forces, the Razakars buried the bodies of the freedom fighters in two pits. This Liberation War memorial site is known to the locals as Atkobor.
