Kodla Math, a notable ancient architectural monument from the seventeenth century, is located in Ayodhya village of Baruipara Union in Bagerhat Sadar Upazila. To many locals, the math is also known as the Ayodhya Math. The distance of this math from the World Heritage site Sixty Dome Mosque in Bagerhat is about 10 kilometers. According to a fragmentary inscription found at Kodla Math, a certain Brahmin built this math in the hope of gaining the grace of Tarak Brahma. According to another source, Kodla Math was built as a memorial for his guru Abilamba Saraswati under the initiative of Raja Pratapaditya, one of the Twelve Bhuiyans of Jessore. Primarily, it stands as a brilliant testament to the memory of King Pratapaditya of Bagerhat and the rich Hindu heritage and architectural art of Bengal.
