বরিশাল জেলা শহরের নতুন বাজার এলাকায় শংকর মঠের (ShreeShree Shangkar Moth) অবস্থান। ১৮৮৪ সালের ১২ আগস্ট গলাচিপায় জন্মগ্রহণকারী বঙ্গভঙ্গ বিরোধী আন্দোলনের নেতা স্বামী প্রজ্ঞানানন্দ সরস্বতী ১৯১২ সালে শ্রী শ্রী শংকর মঠ নামের এই আশ্রম প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন। স্বামী প্রজ্ঞানানন্দ সরস্বতীর আসল নাম সতীশ চন্দ্র মুখোপাধ্যায়। আশ্রম স্থাপনের পরও ব্রিটিশ বিরোধী আন্দোলনে স্বামী প্রজ্ঞানানন্দের ভূমিকা ছিল অবিস্মরণীয়। এমনকি ১৯৭১ সালের মহান মুক্তিযুদ্ধে শংকর মঠ মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের আশ্রয়স্থল হিসাবে সর্বদা উন্মুক্ত ছিল।
ShreeShree Shangkar Moth is located in the Notun Bazar area of Barishal district town. Swami Prajnananda Saraswati, a leader of the anti-Partition movement who was born in Galachipa on August 12, 1884, established this ashram named ShreeShree Shangkar Moth in 1912. The real name of Swami Prajnananda Saraswati was Satish Chandra Mukherjee. Even after the establishment of the ashram, Swami Prajnananda’s role in the anti-British movement was unforgettable. Moreover, during the great Liberation War of 1971, Shangkar Moth was always open as a shelter for freedom fighters.
