কুমিল্লা জেলা সদরের কোটবাড়ির ময়নামতিতে অবস্থিত বাংলাদেশের প্রাচীন প্রত্নতাত্ত্বিক স্থাপত্য আনন্দ বিহার (Ananda Bihara) । ময়নামতির অন্যান্য স্থাপনাগুলোর মধ্যে বৃহত্তম এই মন্দির উপমহাদেশের শেষ বৌদ্ধ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ছিল। নকশা করা বর্গাকৃতির বিশাল বিহার কাঠামোর কেন্দ্রে রয়েছে কেন্দ্রীয় মন্দির ও সুন্দর এক দিঘি। মন্দিরকে ঘিরে কাঠামোর প্রতিটি বাহুতে রয়েছে সন্ন্যাসীদের কক্ষ। বিস্তৃত আঙ্গিনার মাঝে অবস্থিত মন্দিরের উত্তর দিকের মধ্য ভাগে রয়েছে বিহারে প্রবেশ করার একমাত্র প্রবেশ দ্বার। আর বিহার হতে উদ্ধারকৃত বিভিন্ন প্রত্নতাত্ত্বিক নিদর্শনের মধ্যে ৬৩ টি রৌপ্য মুদ্রা, তাম্রশাসন, ব্রোঞ্জ মূর্তি, পোড়ামাটির ভাস্কর্য ফলক ও মৃৎ পাত্র পোড়ানোর কাজে ব্যবহৃত ভাঁটি উল্লেখযোগ্য।
Ananda Bihara, located in Mainamati of Kotbari in Comilla district headquarters, is an ancient archaeological monument of Bangladesh. The largest among other structures in Mainamati, this temple was the last Buddhist university of the subcontinent. At the center of the massive, designed square-shaped vihara structure lies a central temple and a beautiful pond. Surrounding the temple, there are monks’ cells on each wing of the structure. Located in the middle of the spacious courtyard, the central part of the northern side of the temple features the only entrance to the vihara. Among the various archaeological artifacts recovered from the vihara, 63 silver coins, copper plates, bronze statues, terracotta sculptural plaques, and a kiln used for firing pottery are notable.
