Songkhonidhi House is a century-old building located on Tipu Sultan Road in Old Dhaka, listed as one of the 32 heritage buildings by the Department of Archaeology of Bangladesh, and among the 93 historic aesthetic buildings by the Dhaka City Corporation and Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha. At the beginning of the 20th century, three merchant brothers named Lalmohan Saha, Bhajohari Saha, and Gour Nitai Saha dropped their merchant title due to massive business success and adopted the title ‘Songkhonidhi’, meaning the bearer of the conch shell. Between 1920 and 1926, they constructed several buildings in various locations from Tipu Sultan Road in Old Dhaka to Rankin Street in Wari. Lalmohan Saha, one of the three brothers, built Songkhonidhi House in 1921.
