রাজধানী ঢাকা থেকে ৪০ কিলোমিটার দূরে গাজীপুরের জয়দেবপুরের ছায়া সুনিবিড় পরিবেশে গড়ে উঠেছে ভাওয়াল জাতীয় উদ্যান (Bhawal National Park)। গজারি বৃক্ষের আধিক্যের কারণে অনেকের কাছে এটি ভাওয়ালের গজারির গড় হিসাবেও পরিচিত। প্রায় ৫০২২ হেক্টর জায়গা জুড়ে বিস্তৃত ভাওয়াল জাতীয় উদ্যান ১৯৮২ সালে জাতীয় উদ্যানের স্বীকৃতি লাভ করে। উদ্যানের ২২১ প্রজাতির গাছের মধ্যে রয়েছে ৪৩ প্রজাতির বৃক্ষ, ১৯ প্রজাতির গুল্ম, ৩ প্রজাতির পাম, ২৭ প্রজাতির ঘাস, ২৪ প্রজাতির লতা ও ১০৪ প্রজাতির ঔষধি গাছ। এছাড়াও রয়েছে ৬৪ বিভিন্ন প্রজাতির প্রাণী যাদের মধ্যে ১৩ প্রজাতির স্তন্যপায়ী প্রাণী, ৯ প্রজাতির সরীসৃপ, ৫ প্রজাতির পাখি ও উভচর প্রাণী অন্তর্ভুক্ত। প্রাকৃতিক মনোরম পরিবেশ ও জীব বৈচিত্রে পরিপূর্ণ এই উদ্যানে ছুটির দিনে অনেকে পিকনিক এবং বিভিন্ন অনুষ্ঠানের আয়োজন করে থাকে।
Located in the shady, serene environment of Joydebpur in Gazipur, 40 kilometers from the capital Dhaka, Bhawal National Park has been developed. Due to the abundance of Sal trees, it is also known to many as the Sal forest of Bhawal. Spanning an area of about 5,022 hectares, Bhawal National Park was recognized as a national park in 1982. Among the 221 plant species in the park, there are 43 tree species, 19 shrub species, 3 palm species, 27 grass species, 24 climber species, and 104 medicinal plant species. There are also 64 different animal species, including 13 mammal species, 9 reptile species, 5 bird species, and amphibians. Filled with a naturally scenic environment and biodiversity, many people organize picnics and various events here on holidays.
