Hajiganj Fort, located on the bank of the Shitalakshya River in Hajiganj, Narayanganj district, is a historic water defense system built during the Mughal period. At that time, Hajiganj was known as Khizrpur, which is why many people referred to it as Khizrpur Fort. Around the seventeenth century, after the Mughal Subahdar Islam Khan established the Mughal capital in Dhaka, Hajiganj became one of the three water forts, or the triangle of water forts, built to resist attacks by Mogh and Portuguese pirates. The names of the other two forts are Sonakanda Fort and Idrakpur Fort. The road distance from Dhaka to Hajiganj Fort is about 15 kilometers.
