Wildlife Sanctuary Tengragiri Eco Park (Tengra Giri Eco Park) has been established covering a vast forest area of a part of the Sundarbans in Sonakata Union, 24 kilometers away from Taltali Upazila of Barguna District. Sonakata Sea Beach, another tourist attraction, is located next to Tengragiri Eco Park. Declared as a reserved forest on July 12, 1960, this forest is known by different names to local residents such as Fatrar Bon / Pathorghatar Bon / Horinghatar Bon etc., but in 1967 the forest was named Tengragiri Forest. After the Sundarbans, it is the second largest mangrove forest in Bangladesh, which is flooded twice a day by tides. Due to the exquisite mixture of saline and sweet soil, this forest has numerous rows of extinct species of trees, animals, birds and reptiles. The green dense mangrove forest of Tengragiri, red crabs scurrying along the beach line, chirping of birds and the charming view of sunset at the horizon late in the afternoon are enough to fascinate any tourist. And that is why many travel enthusiasts come here from far and wide to escape the city noise and get lost in the natural beauty and vastness of the sea.
