রাজধানী ঢাকার মিরপুরে মনোরম প্রকৃতিক পরিবেশে বাংলাদেশ জাতীয় চিড়িয়াখানা ( Bangladesh National Zoo ) অবস্থিত। জনসাধারণের বিনোদন, প্রাণি বৈচিত্র সংরক্ষণ, প্রজনন, গবেষণা এবং বন্যপ্রাণি সম্পর্কিত জ্ঞান বৃদ্ধি করার উদ্দেশ্যে ১৯৫০ সালে ঢাকা হাইকোর্ট প্রাঙ্গনে অল্প সংখ্যক বন্যপ্রাণি নিয়ে বাংলাদেশে চিড়িয়াখানার যাত্রা শুরু হয়। পরবর্তীতে ১৯৬০ সালে মিরপুরে চিড়িয়াখানা স্থাপনের উদ্যোগ নেয়া হয় এবং ১৯৭৪ সনের ২৩ জুন বর্তমান বাংলাদেশ জাতীয় চিড়িয়াখানা জনসাধারণের জন্য উন্মুক্ত করা হয়।
The Bangladesh National Zoo is located in a pleasant natural environment in Mirpur, Dhaka. The zoo in Bangladesh began its journey in 1950 on the Dhaka High Court premises with a small number of wild animals for public entertainment, animal diversity conservation, breeding, research, and increasing knowledge about wildlife. Later, in 1960, an initiative was taken to establish a zoo in Mirpur, and the current Bangladesh National Zoo was opened to the public on June 23, 1974.
