Located in Majhipur of Savar upazila in the capital Dhaka, Raja Harishchandra Dhibi is one of the oldest archaeological sites in Bangladesh. It is known to locals by various names such as Raja Harishchandra’s House, Raja Harishchandra’s Homestead, or Raja Harishchandra’s Palace. Majhipur holds great historical significance; in the 7th and 8th centuries, it was the capital of the Sarbeswar kingdom under the Pala dynasty king Harishchandra, situated on the banks of the ancient Banshabati River. It is believed that the name Savar gradually originated from the capital resources of King Harishchandra.
