মানবসম্পদ উন্নয়ন এবং বিশ্বব্যাপী গ্রহণযোগ্যতা সৃষ্টির উদ্দেশ্যে রংপুর বিভাগে প্রতিষ্ঠিত প্রথম বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের নাম হাজী মোহাম্মদ দানেশ বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় (Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science & Technology University)। তেভাগা আন্দোলনের জনক কৃষকনেতা হাজী মোহাম্মদ দানেশের নামানুসারে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের নাম রাখা হয়। ১৯৭৬ সালে এই বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের যাত্রা শুরু হয় এগ্রিকালচারাল এক্সটেনশন ট্রেনিং ইনিস্টিটিউট হিসেবে এবং তখন এখান থেকে কৃষিতে ডিপ্লোমা ডিগ্রী প্রদান করা হত। এরপর ১৯৮৮ সালে বাংলাদেশ কৃষি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অধীনে এটি স্নাতক পর্যায়ের কৃষি কলেজে উন্নীত হয়। ১৯৯৯ সালের ১১ সেপ্টেম্বর এই কৃষি কলেজটিকে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে উন্নীত করার ঘোষণা দেয়া হয়। এরই ফলশ্রুতিতে ২০০২ সালের ৮ এপ্রিল মহামান্য রাষ্ট্রপতির প্রজ্ঞাপন জারির মাধ্যমে স্থাপিত হয় হাজী মোহাম্মদ দানেশ বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়। ১৩০ একর আয়তনের এই বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে বর্তমানে ৮টি অনুষদের অধীনে ২২ টি বিষয়ে সনদ প্রদান করা হয়।
Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science & Technology University is the first science and technology university established in the Rangpur division with the aim of human resource development and creating global acceptance. The university was named after the peasant leader Hajee Mohammad Danesh, the father of the Tebhaga movement. This university began its journey in 1976 as the Agricultural Extension Training Institute, where diploma degrees in agriculture were awarded. Later in 1988, it was upgraded to an undergraduate agricultural college under the Bangladesh Agricultural University. On September 11, 1999, it was announced that this agricultural college would be upgraded to a university. Consequently, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science & Technology University was established through a notification issued by the Honorable President on April 8, 2002. Spanning 130 acres, the university currently awards degrees in 22 subjects under 8 faculties.
