The Bir Shrestho Hamidur Rahman Monument is located in the Dhalai tea garden near the border in Kamalganj Upazila of Moulvibazar District. Born in Jhenaidah, the brave hero Hamidur Rahman was a courageous sepoy in the Bangladesh Army. In October 1971, Hamidur Rahman was fighting in the Srimangal area of Sylhet. On the morning of October 28, upon the orders of his team commander, Hamidur Rahman advanced to capture the Pakistani stronghold at the Dhalai BOP. Risking his life with a light machine gun, Hamidur Rahman single-handedly destroyed two Pakistani military tanks. This resulted in the death of the enemy stronghold’s commander and several soldiers. Eventually, while still in combat, this brave son was shot by enemy counterattacks and embraced death. Within a few days of his supreme sacrifice, the Dhalai border outpost came under the control of the freedom fighters. His fellow fighters took Hamidur Rahman’s body across the border and buried it next to a mosque in Ambasa village, India.
