পদ্মার তীর ঘেঁষা এক সময়ের রেসকোর্স ময়দানের ৩২.৭৬ একর জায়গা জুড়ে রাজশাহী কেন্দ্রীয় উদ্যান ও চিড়িয়াখানা গড়ে তোলা হয়েছে। রাজশাহী শহর থেকে চিড়িয়াখানার দূরত্ব মাত্র ৪.২ কিলোমিটার। ১৯৭২ সালে শহীদ এ এইচ এম কামারুজ্জাম সড়কের কাছে রাজশাহী কেন্দ্রীয় চিড়িয়াখানার নির্মাণ কাজ শুরু হলে ১৯৭৪-৭৬ সালে রাজস্ব বিভাগের অনুমতিক্রমে এখানে চিড়িয়াখানার পাশাপাশি একটি শিশু পার্ক নির্মাণের কাজ সম্পন্ন করা হয়। ফলে রাজশাহী কেন্দ্রীয় চিড়িয়াখানাটি শহীদ এ এইচ এম কামারুজ্জামান কেন্দ্রীয় উদ্যান ও চিড়িয়াখানা (Shaheed A.H.M. Kamruzzaman Central Park & Zoo) হিসেবে পরিচিতি লাভ করে।
Rajshahi Central Park and Zoo has been built on 32.76 acres of the erstwhile Racecourse Ground along the bank of the Padma River. The distance of the zoo from Rajshahi city is only 4.2 kilometers. Construction of the Rajshahi Central Zoo near Shaheed A.H.M. Kamruzzaman Road began in 1972, and with the permission of the Department of Revenue, a children’s park was built alongside the zoo between 1974 and 1976. As a result, the Rajshahi Central Zoo came to be known as Shaheed A.H.M. Kamruzzaman Central Park & Zoo.
