Located 7.6 kilometers from Chittagong city near the Anderkilla circle, Anderkilla Shahi Jame Masjid is a traditional architectural monument of the Mughal era. According to historical sources, during the Mughal period, Killa Arkani was a stronghold of the Magh and Portuguese pirates. On January 27, 1666 AD, Buzurg Umed Khan, son of the Subahdar of Bengal Shaista Khan, entered the interior of this stronghold, leading to the name “Ander Killa”. Later, to commemorate the conquest of Chittagong against the Maghs and Portuguese, Shaista Khan built the Anderkilla Shahi Jame Masjid here on the orders of Emperor Aurangzeb. The imam of the mosque was appointed from holy Medina.
