Bhitorgarh Durg Nogori, a remarkable medieval architectural site, is located in the border area between Bangladesh and India in Amarkhana Union, about 15 kilometers from Panchagarh district. According to archaeologists, King Pritu built the Bhitorgarh Fort as his capital around the 6th century. In 1257, when Sultan Mughisuddin of the Pala dynasty invaded the Kamrup kingdom, the fort came under Sultanate rule. It is believed that Bhitorgarh was established as an independent state in the late 6th or early 7th century. Hidden beneath the ground, this fort holds the history of an ancient civilization, architectural ruins, and several archaeological artifacts.
