Bara Katra is a historical architectural monument from the Mughal era located on the banks of the Buriganga River in Chawkbazar, Old Dhaka. It was built in 1641 AD by the chief architect Mir Abul Kasem under the instruction of Shahzada Shuja, the son of Emperor Shah Jahan. At that time, Abul Kasem was titled ‘Mir-i-Imarat’. Although Bara Katra was built as a residence for Shahzada Shuja, it was later used as a caravanserai.
