সিলেটের শেখঘাটে কাজীরবাজার সেতুর উত্তরে ঐতিহাসিক জিতু মিয়ার বাড়ী (Jitu Miah’r Bari) অবস্থিত। ১ দশমিক ৩৬৫ একর জায়গা জুড়ে খান বাহাদুর আবু নছর মোহাম্মদ এহিয়া ওরফে জিতু মিয়া মুসলিম স্থাপত্যশৈলীর এই স্থাপনাটি নির্মাণ করেন। খান বাহাদুর আবু নছর মোহাম্মদ এহিয়া ওরফে জিতু মিয়া সাব রেজিস্টার হিসাবে কর্মজীবন শুরু করলেও ১৮৯৭ থেকে ১৯০৩ সাল পযর্ন্ত সিলেট পৌরসভার ভাইস চেয়ারম্যান এবং অনারারী ম্যাজিস্টেট ছিলেন। তৎকালীন সময়ে জিতু মিয়ার পরিবারের জাকঁজমকপূর্ণ বিলাসী জীবনযাপন সিলেটে ব্যাপকভাবে আলোচিত হত। কথিত আছে, সে সময় এই বাড়ীর ড্রয়িংরুমে তুরস্কের পাশা, রুশ তুরস্কের যুদ্ধ, ব্রিটিশ রাজ পরিবারের রাজপুরুষদের বিভিন্ন আলোকচিত্র শোভা পেত। আর প্রতিদিন সিলেটে আগত শত শত লোক জিতু মিয়ার বাড়িতে আতিথেয়তা গ্রহণ করতেন।
The historic Jitu Miah’r Bari is located north of Kazirbazar Bridge in Shekhghat, Sylhet. Khan Bahadur Abu Nasr Mohammad Yahia, also known as Jitu Miah, built this structure featuring Islamic architectural style on 1.365 acres of land. Although Khan Bahadur Abu Nasr Mohammad Yahia alias Jitu Miah began his career as a sub-registrar, he served as the vice-chairman of Sylhet Municipality and an honorary magistrate from 1897 to 1903. At that time, the lavish and extravagant lifestyle of Jitu Miah’s family was widely discussed in Sylhet. It is said that photographs of the Pasha of Turkey, the Russo-Turkish War, and members of the British royal family adorned the drawing room of this house. Moreover, hundreds of people visiting Sylhet every day enjoyed hospitality at Jitu Miah’s house.
