প্রকৃতির এক অপার বিস্ময় আর রোমাঞ্চের নাম বান্দরবান । কির্সতং (Kristong) পাহাড় বান্দরবানের আলীকদম উপজেলায় চিম্বুক রেঞ্জের সর্বোচ্চ চূড়ায় অবস্থিত। সমুদ্রপৃষ্ঠ থেকে এই পাহাড়ের উচ্চতা প্রায় ২,৯০০ ফুট। ‘কির্সতং’ শব্দটি মারমা ভাষা থেকে এসেছে। ‘কির্স’ মানে একটি বিলুপ্তপ্রায় পাখি এবং ‘তং’ মানে পাহাড়। একসময় এই পাহাড়ের চূড়ায় এই বিরল পাখিগুলো দেখা যেত বলে এর এমন নামকরণ করা হয়েছে। এছারাও এই পাহাড় একসময় ধনেশ পাখির আবাসস্থল হিসেবে পরিচিত ছিল। ঘন অরণ্যে ঘেরা এই পাহাড়ে এখনও অনেক দুর্লভ পশুপাখির দেখা মেলে। ঘন জঙ্গল, শতবর্ষী বিশাল সব গাছ আর বন্যপরিবেশ কির্সতংকে অন্য সব পাহাড় থেকে আলাদা করেছে। এখানে পৌঁছানোর পথ যেমন দুর্গম, তেমনই রোমাঞ্চকর।
Bandarban is a name of immense wonder and adventure in nature. Kristong Hill is located at the highest peak of the Chimbuk Range in Alikadam Upazila of Bandarban. The height of this hill is about 2,900 feet above sea level. The word ‘Kristong’ comes from the Marma language. ‘Kirs’ means an extinct bird and ‘tong’ means hill. It was named this way because these rare birds were once seen at the top of this hill. Besides, this hill was once known as the habitat of hornbills. Covered in dense forests, this hill is still home to many rare animals and birds. Dense jungles, century-old giant trees, and the wild environment set Kristong apart from all other hills. The path to reach here is as rugged as it is adventurous.
