The Jadukata River is a stunning natural wonder flowing along the northeastern border of Bangladesh and India in Sunamganj District. It is considered one of the most beautiful and cleanest rivers in Bangladesh. The river’s original name was Renuka, but there is a tragic legend behind its current name. According to tradition, a newlywed village bride living by the river was cutting fish on the riverbank while holding her infant son, ‘Jadhu’, in her lap. Distracted for a moment, she accidentally cut her own child instead of the fish. Later, from that tragic story, the river came to be known as ‘Jadukata’ (meaning ‘Jadhu is cut’).
