মহেশখালী (Moheshkhali) উপজেলা কক্সবাজার জেলার একটি দ্বীপ। কক্সবাজার শহর থেকে এটি মাত্র ১২ কিলোমিটার দূরে অবস্থিত। জনশ্রুতি আছে, ১৫৫৯ সালের প্রচণ্ড ঘূর্ণিঝড় ও জলোচ্ছ্বাসের ফলে মূল ভূখণ্ড থেকে বিচ্ছিন্ন হয়ে এই দ্বীপের সৃষ্টি হয়। বৌদ্ধ সেন মহেশ্বর থেকেই প্রায় ২০০ বছর আগে এই জায়গার নামকরণ হয় মহেশখালী। এটি বর্তমানে বাংলাদেশের অন্যতম প্রধান ‘এনার্জি হাব’ বা জ্বালানি কেন্দ্র হিসেবে বিশ্বজুড়ে পরিচিত।

Moheshkhali Upazila is an island in the Cox’s Bazar district, located just 12 kilometers away from Cox’s Bazar town. According to legend, this island was created when it was separated from the mainland due to a severe cyclone and storm surge in 1559. The place was named Moheshkhali about 200 years ago, originating from the Buddhist sage Maheshwar. Today, it is known worldwide as one of the major ‘energy hubs’ of Bangladesh.

কীভাবে যাবেন: ঢাকা বা দেশের যেকোনো প্রান্ত থেকে সংশ্লিষ্ট জেলা বা উপজেলা নৌঘাটে পৌঁছাতে হবে। ঘাট থেকে অনুমোদিত ইঞ্জিনচালিত ট্রলার, সি-ট্রাক বা স্পিডবোটে নদী/সাগর পার হয়ে সরাসরি মহেশখালী-এ পৌঁছানো যায়।
