Baikka Beel, a sanctuary located on the eastern side of Hail Haor in Sreemangal upazila of Moulvibazar district, renowned as the city of tea, is situated about 20 kilometers from Sreemangal town. Following the decision to preserve Baikka Beel as a fish sanctuary on 1 July 2003, an attractive tourist spot has developed around it. Filled with breathtaking natural scenery and the calls of thousands of birds, Baikka Beel is home to sandpipers and wild ducks, as well as vast grazing lands for cattle and buffalo. Every winter, domestic and foreign tourists flock here to admire the beauty of the wetland. Currently, the haor provides a safe habitat for 80 species of fish, 18 endangered fish species, and about 160 species of birds. Due to the large arrival of birds, a bird census is held annually at Baikka Beel, and this data is preserved internationally.
