Belai Beel is a charming wetland in Gazipur district, surrounded by the villages of Baria, Brahmangaon, Baktarpur, and Bamchini mouzas near the Chelai River. Spanning about 8 square miles, water remains in many parts of this beel almost year-round. However, to truly experience the beauty of Belai Beel, the monsoon season is unmatched. It is said that 400 years ago, this beel did not exist; like the Chelai River, it was a swift-flowing stream. While fishermen are seen busy around the beel during the monsoon, in the dry season Belai Beel turns into Boro paddy fields.
