Bill Root Canal is a historic straight canal flowing beside the Madaripur-Gopalganj highway and Arpara Munshibari. The Ariyal Khan and Madhumati rivers meet at Tekerhat through the Bill Root Canal. Locals also call this canal the Madaripur Beel Route because most of the small and large canals and wetlands of Madaripur district are integrated through it. Sir Arthur Cotton proposed the excavation of the Bill Root Canal in 1858, and excavation began in 1899. Later, it was opened for public use in 1914.
