বাংলাদেশের সর্ববৃহৎ এবং সবচেয়ে বৈচিত্র্যময় জলাভূমির নাম চলন বিল (Chalan Beel)। নাটোর , সিরাজগঞ্জ এবং পাবনা জেলাজুড়ে ছড়িয়ে থাকা ছোট ছোট অনেকগুলো বিলের সমষ্টি এই চলন বিল। বর্ষায় দ্বীপের মতো ভাসমান সবুজ গ্রাম, শীতে দূর-দূরান্ত থেকে আসা অতিথি পাখির কলরব, সুনীল আকাশ এবং শরতে বিলের পাড় ধরে ফুটে থাকা কাশবনের অনন্য সৌন্দর্য আগত দর্শনার্থীদের মন্ত্রমুগ্ধ করে রাখে। তবে শুধুমাত্র ভরা বর্ষায় চলন বিলের প্রকৃত ও প্রলয়ঙ্করী রূপ ধরা পড়ে, যখন প্রায় ৩৬৮ বর্গ কিলোমিটার এলাকা জলে একাকার হয়ে সাগরের মতো রূপ নেয়। বর্ষাকাল ছাড়াও প্রায় সারাবছরই চলন বিলের বুকে নৌকায় ভেসে বেড়াতে কিংবা বিলের বৈচিত্র্যপূর্ণ জীবনযাত্রা উপভোগ করতে অসংখ্য পর্যটক এখানে ছুটে আসেন।
Chalan Beel is the largest and most diverse wetland in Bangladesh. It is a cluster of many small beels (wetlands) spread across Natore, Sirajganj, and Pabna districts. During the monsoon, floating green villages resembling islands, the chirping of migratory birds from afar and clear blue skies in winter, and the unique beauty of kashful (kans grass) blooming along the banks in autumn mesmerize visiting tourists. However, the true and overwhelming form of Chalan Beel is revealed only during the peak monsoon, when an area of about 368 square kilometers merges into water like a sea. Aside from the monsoon season, countless tourists rush here almost year-round to float on boats across Chalan Beel or enjoy its diverse way of life.
