পৃথিবীর সর্ববৃহৎ ম্যানগ্রোভ বনাঞ্চল সুন্দরবনের দক্ষিণাংশে খুলনা রেঞ্জে প্রমত্তা কুঙ্গা নদীর তীরে অবস্থিত একটি সংরক্ষিত অভয়ারণ্যের নাম হিরণ পয়েন্ট (Hiron Point)। ইউনেস্কো ঘোষিত অন্যতম বিশ্ব ঐতিহ্য হিরণ পয়েন্টের অন্য নাম নীলকমল। অভয়ারণ্য হওয়ার কারণে হিরণ পয়েন্ট সহজেই বানর, হরিণ, বাঘ সহ নানা প্রজাতি বন্যপ্রাণী, সরীসৃপ ও পাখির নিরাপদ প্রাকৃতিক আবসস্থলে পরিণত হয়েছে। ফলে এখানে সুন্দরবনের অন্যতম আকর্ষণ রয়েল বেঙ্গল টাইগার, চিত্রা হরিণ, লার্জ এগ্রেট, কাঁদা খোঁচা, ধ্যানী বক প্রভৃতি পশুপাখির দর্শন মিলে।
Hiron Point is a reserved sanctuary located on the banks of the mighty Kunga River in the Khulna range, in the southern part of the Sundarbans, the world’s largest mangrove forest. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hiron Point is also known as Nilkamal. Because it is a sanctuary, Hiron Point has easily become a safe natural habitat for various wildlife, reptiles, and birds, including monkeys, deer, and tigers. As a result, visitors can frequently spot animals and birds such as the Royal Bengal Tiger, spotted deer, large egret, snipe, and pond heron.
