The Brahmaputra River is an important river in the continent of Asia. The Sanskrit word Brahmaputra means son of Brahma. Originating from the Zima Yangzong glacier near the Kailash peak in the Himalayas, it flows eastwards in Tibet under the name Tsangpo, and as it flows through Arunachal Pradesh in India as Siang and Assam as Dihang, it joins two other major rivers named Dibang and Lohit to form the Brahmaputra River. It then enters Bangladesh through Kurigram district, meets the Meghna River through the Mymensingh region, and flows into the Bay of Bengal. The length of the Brahmaputra River from its source to the Bay of Bengal is about 2900 kilometers. In 1787, due to an earthquake, the course of the Brahmaputra River changed, giving birth to the Jamuna River, the main distributary of the Brahmaputra.
