Arial Bil is the largest and oldest wetland in the central part of the country, filled with vast bodies of water in the rainy season and sprawling green crop fields in winter. Spanning approximately 136 square kilometers across Dohar and Nawabganj upazilas of Dhaka, and Sreenagar and Sirajdikhan upazilas of Munshiganj, the majority of this wetland lies within Munshiganj district. It is believed that Arial Bil originated between the Padma and Dheleshwari rivers in Munshiganj district due to the drying up of river flows at the ancient confluence of the Ganges and Brahmaputra rivers.
