বাংলাদেশে একসময় অনেক জায়গাতেই পদ্মফুলের দেখা গেলেও দিন দিন তা কমে যাচ্ছে। এখানে ব্যতিক্রম ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়া জেলার আখাউড়া উপজেলার সীমান্তবর্তী গ্রাম ঘাগুটিয়ার পদ্মবিল। শত বছর ধরে ১২০ একর বিস্তীর্ণ এলাকাজুড়ে অবস্থিত ঘাগুটিয়ার পদ্মবিলে ফুটে থাকে হাজার হাজার পদ্ম। যখন বিলে জুড়ে পদ্ম ফুটে তা দেখার জন্যে প্রতিবছর প্রকৃতিপ্রেমীরা দেশের নানা প্রান্ত থেকে ছুটে আসে।
While water lilies could once be seen in many places across Bangladesh, they are decreasing day by day. An exception is the lotus bill (Padmabil) in the border village of Ghagutia, located in the Akhaura Upazila of Brahmanbaria District. Spread across a vast 120-acre area for over a hundred years, thousands of water lilies bloom in Ghagutia’s Padmabil. When the water lilies bloom all over the bill, nature lovers rush from all parts of the country every year to see it.
