কুড়িগ্রাম জেলার রাজারহাট উপজেলায় কালের সাক্ষী হিসেবে দাড়িয়ে আছে বিশাল আকৃতির এক অচিন গাছ (Achin Tree)। রহস্যকেন্দ্রিক গাছটির বয়স আনুমানিক ৫শ বছরের অধিক হলেও সবাই নিজেদের বাপ দাদাদের কাছ থেকে গাছ সম্পর্কে বিভিন্ন কাহিনী শুনেছেন। স্থানীয়রা পৌরনিক কাহিনী ছাড়া এই গাছটির জন্ম বৃত্তান্ত বা পরিচয় এসব কিছুই বলতে পারে না। বিশেষজ্ঞদের মতে, এই গাছটি পাকুর প্রজাতির। কথিত আছে, ভারতের আসাম রাজ্যের কামরূপ-কামাখ্যা হতে আগত একদল জাদুঘর চোখের পলকে এই অচিন গাছটি এখানে লাগিয়েছিলেন। আর গাছটির নাম কেউ না জানার কারণে স্থানীয়রা একে “অচিন গাছ” হিসেবে নামকরণ করে। আবার অনেকের মতে, এক পীর সুদূর পশ্চিম দিক থেকে অপরিচিত এই গাছের চারা এনে রোপণ করেছিল। সেই কারণে এটি অচিন গাছ হিসেবেই পরিচয় লাভ করে। এমন রহস্যের কারণে অচিন গাছকে ঘিরে কৌতূহলী মানুষের আগ্রহের কমতি নেই।
Standing as a silent witness to time in Rajarhat Upazila of Kurigram District is a giant Achin Tree. Although this mysterious tree is estimated to be over 500 years old, everyone has only heard various stories about it from their ancestors. Locals cannot tell anything about the origin or identity of this tree except for mythological tales. According to experts, this tree belongs to the Pakur species. Legend has it that a group of magicians coming from Kamrup-Kamakhya in the Indian state of Assam planted this Achin Tree here in the blink of an eye. As no one knew the name of the tree, locals named it “Achin Tree” (Unknown Tree). Again, according to many, a pir brought a sapling of this unfamiliar tree from afar in the west and planted it. That is why it became known as the Achin Tree. Because of such mysteries, there is no shortage of curiosity among people surrounding the Achin Tree.
